Snow Blowers

Every snow blower we sell is chosen for Canadian winters and priced in Canadian dollars. Cordless, corded and gas machines from Greenworks, Snow Joe, PowerSmart and Ducar, from a twelve inch powered shovel for the front steps to a stand-on unit that clears a farm yard. Whatever you buy here is sized against real Canadian snowfall rather than a milder market.

Start with the surface, not the badge. On asphalt or concrete a single-stage snow blower scrapes down to bare pavement and costs the least to buy and store. On gravel, dirt or an unpaved laneway you need a two-stage machine, because its auger rides above the surface on skid shoes instead of firing stones out of the chute.

Then decide on depth and on the plough ridge. Single-stage machines handle roughly the first twenty centimetres and stall in the dense compacted bank a municipal plough leaves across your apron after the storm. If that ridge is the reason you dread snow, buy two-stage and stop there. If your driveway is short, paved and regularly cleared, a battery snow blower starts on a button with no fuel to stabilise, while a corded electric machine is the cheapest route out of shovelling if you can live with a cord.

You will still want a snow shovel for the steps, the deck and the gap beside the car, and a shelf of parts and accessories so a snapped shear pin does not cost you a week of clearing by hand. Owners of a tractor or UTV should look at snow blower attachments before buying a second engine. Not sure yet? Our snow blower buying guides walk through clearing width, intake height and stage count in plain language. Before you settle on a size, check the snowfall your own area actually gets: Environment and Climate Change Canada issues the winter storm warnings that decide how often you will be out there.
